I was a bit of a late bloomer regarding Depeche Mode. I remember being in the Virgin Megastore in Chicago (which no longer exists) around 1998 and hearing "Enjoy the Silence" come over the speakers. Even though I had heard that song many times before, for some reason that time it stirred up something and I couldn't get it out of my head. I bought the 86<98 collection right there, and everything DM had ever put out in the following weeks.
I also remember driving over a bridge on the highway in IL, and while I was opening the CD case for the live album "101", the liner notes flew out my window and over the bridge. I freaked out quite a bit.
This song, and video, to this day are two of my favorite things in existence:
In case you didn't know, I contribute to this other blog now and again (hopefully more once I get photoshop and a new digital camera). The blog's name, Yer Sweet Chimneys, originally started as a band that was an offshoot of another band, who also appears as the main man behind the blog. Confused yet?
Yer Sweet Chimneys recently played a show in Williamsburg, here's a couple of photographic highlights:
I came upon a street fair on Smith Street in Brooklyn last weekend. They pop up here and there in the summer, usually with booth after booth of tube socks for sale and arepas to eat. This one was a little different:
A few shots from the past weekend (a rained-out Brooklyn Flea and Renegade Craft Fair) using a secret, not-yet-released camera from my place of employment.
I didn't realize this was an Amstel light commercial when I first saw it...I was just sitting there with my mouth open in awe of how awesome it is. I want to live in Amsterdam so badly!
Here's a few of my favorites I shot when I was there last year:
I've been in NYC, searching for the soul and all that. Finally got some film developed; I managed to snap precisely one picture in the Mythic Creatures exhibition before a security guard came dangerously close.
I've been moving out of my apartment for the last week; it's taken forever.
More (hopefully interesting posts) to come soon...
In the meantime, here is a lovely maker-of-handbags on Etsy: Valhalla Brooklyn. I've been eyeing their shop for some time. I love the relaxed shapes mixed with subtle functionality.
